An established food and portrait photographer, Louis runs the daily operations and management of Africa Media whilst using his photographic skills to instruct both wildlife and underwater photography programs when required. He can be found pulling the team together and keeping everyone happy, even if we’re having a bad day. Everyone loves Louis!

An up-and-coming director of photography for wildlife documentaries, Chris offers a wealth of experience to participants in our underwater and wildlife videography programs. Having trained as a commercial DOP, Chris is now fully invested in documenting Africa’s wildlife both above and below the waves. With his quiet and unassuming manner, Chris is a favourite amongst our students.

Frikkie built his career as a professional sports photographer. In recent years Frikkie has turned his focus towards wildlife and environmental photography and uses this medium to tell stories through his lens. Frikkie taught photography for Nikon many years, and we were lucky to get him! He is a patient, fastidious teacher and many students have benefitted from the depth of his knowledge and his simple, easy way of explaining complex concepts.

Here is a man who is truly living up to the meaning of his Xhosa name, Ncedo, which translates to “help”. Ncedo is known to us as Johnny, as most of us can’t pronounce the musical click of the c in this beautiful Xhosa name. As a fully qualified and accredited film producer, Johnny offers students in our wildlife filmmaking program a wealth of knowledge and skills in every aspect of wildlife and documentary filmmaking. As a brand developer and Former Head of Entertainment at BayTV, Johnny has plenty of practical skills to teach you.

Samantha has been at Africa Media for the longest of all our client liaison personnel. As such, Sam is the expert on all things Africa Media. She has an uncanny knack for simplifying even the most complex of questions. If you are struggling with complex itineraries and have questions about your trips, then Sam is the person who will be able to assist you.

Jeannine is the ‘host-ess with the most-ess’. Coming from a hospitality background, Jeannine knows how to improve your day! She ensures that her housekeeping team is working to her exacting standards and that everything is spick-and-span, the way it should be, ensuring your comfort while you are away from home. She is also a stunning chef and prepares sumptuous dinners for you- so that you feel your time in Africa is like a home away from home!

Dudu is known to us all as Petra. Petra has worked at Africa Media and privately for Ryan and Fiona for more than twelve years and is our longest-standing employee. Petra is the person to thank when you come home from a hard day on the ocean or the game reserve, and everything is spotless and comfy. Petra is a bead artiste of note and makes the special mementoes Africa Media gives to each attendee as a gift- something to remind you of Africa.

Abigail is known to us, her family, as Abby. Abby is Petra’s daughter, and she has blossomed into a wonderful cook under the expert guidance of Jeannine. Abby has always been interested in preparing excellent and hearty meals, and we look forward to seeing her grow and expand her repertoire of meals. Abby also runs a tuck shop for students, and she has an eye for something sweet!

Luis hails from Mozambique. He can fix ANYTHING, and we mean anything!! There are three homes on the property, and Luis ensures they are all running smoothly. He also has a fleet of 10 cars under his caring hands. Luis has hands of gold and spends his days caring for the property and ensuring everything is safe and working perfectly. Luis also has great humour; we’ve never seen him unhappy. He smiles more than anyone we know!

Derrick is the husband of Abby and son-in-law of Petra. Derrick truly has green fingers! He is also an animal fanatic; the farm animals come under his expert care, and he cares for them as if they were his family. Derrick is responsible for growing all your organic vegetables on the student house grounds, and he delivers them to the kitchen daily on instruction from the chef. Derrick also runs the free-range chicken farm, and while we don’t eat the chickens, you’ll no doubt get to enjoy their eggs!
